Life is a tender dance with death. Throughout history aggressors have raped and pillaged foreign lands, their communities at home not asking questions when the abundance was returned. Today’s no different, it’s ironic with the internet enabling me to search to my heart’s content, how little I choose to delve into the real inconvenient truth.
To know “freedom” we’ve got to feel it’s cost. Remove the veil and face what is happening around us, feel the blood and the stench. It is ours to own.
Tyranny is a two-sided coin.
Tyranny is a hereditary disease.
Tyranny abuses both those who perpetuate and suffer under it. Our ancestors knew this well. European empires sought to control and “tame” their primordial forest surroundings through the systematic plunder, enslavement and 2nd class assimilation of its woody flesh, and human and animal inhabitants. The rise of the nation-state furthered the homogenization of the wild by mixing the elites of commerce with bloodline rule.
Eventually some got fed up and crossed the Atlantic to a new land of “freedom” only to turn around and systematically destroy and enslave the wild new lands exactly as it had been done to them.
As explorers we romanticize our quest to find new and uncharted lands only to find that our presence ruins the very things we seek.
